A explosion and fire inside the port area of Veracruz caused fear among the population and the suspension of activities in the northern bay of the port.
The events were recorded during the afternoon of this Friday in the container terminal company ICAVE, where the fire reached several chemical warehouses, causing columns of smoke that could be seen from kilometres away.
This situation generated fear among the population since at first the causes of the fire were unknown and there were even rumors that the containers probably stored fuel.
The fire was dealt with by firefighters from the port itself, supported by other institutions such as firefighters from the metropolitan area and the Veracruz City Council.
“The fire occurred in a block of isolated containers Therefore, there are no personnel, vessels or other terminals at risk and it does not represent a danger to the urban area,” the Veracruz National Port System Administration stated in a statement.

In another statement, it indicated that the container where the fire started contained chemicals to later reach others, but did not give more details regarding their content.
He also said that local firefighters helped them with the water needed to deal with the emergency and with other problems that needed to be resolved to avoid risks.
