This is not the first case of a Roma crime in Bolintin Vale
The first bloody conflict in Bolintin Vale took place on the night of April 6-7, 1991, on Easter Sunday, when an ethnic Roma stabbed a student to death for refusing to take him by car. The killer was arrested after only a few hours, but the next morning the sirens went off, and many people gathered in front of the victim’s house.
The villagers began to attack the houses of semi-nomadic Roma, sedentarized by the authorities during the communist period.
21 houses were set on fire and five destroyed.
The houses of the Roma who were integrated were bypassed. The Roma whose houses were destroyed were forced to leave the town. On May 7, 1991, several Roma in this category tried to return to the village, moving into the burning houses. However, the locals came out and set fire to these houses, forcing the Roma to leave the town.
Subsequently, in 2009, the Romanian Government undertook to provide financial compensation to the Roma applicants.
