THE NEW DIARY, SANTO DOMINGO.- The lawyer Miguel Valerio, defender of the defendant Víctor Díaz Rúa said on Friday that he was “very happy because now our case is beginning to be proven, not his (Public Ministry)” and reiterated on constant occasions that Mauricio Dantas Bezerra’s testimony “It was full of lies.”
“So now the Public Ministry is going to have to explain to the country how it was that it brought a witness here to speak lies,” said the jurist, visibly confident, and it was reiterated that the Brazilian witness lied because, in his opinion, Dantas Bezerra mentioned resources of international investigations involving private corruption and spoke out for award-winning denunciations.
The lawyer said this because Dantas Bezerra directly accused Víctor Diaz Rúa of receiving bribes from Ángel Rondón and Conrado Pittaluga to enable Odentecht works in the country. In fact, the name of Díaz Rúa was the only one mentioned by the Brazilian witness among the officials who allegedly received bribes.
On his side, the lawyer Valerio did not want to reveal what will be the argument that he will use to deny Dantas Bezerra’s statements and only limited himself to saying that “as of Monday, our next step will be to dismantle that lie told clearly.”
Likewise, the jurist mocked by stating that the Prosecutor’s Office “should eliminate” the agreement that exists between Odebrecht and the Public Ministry because “that has only served to tell lies.”
Valerio once again expressed his happiness because he is sure that he has the necessary legal resources and added that Dantas Bezerra “spoke the truth partially” by revealing that he testified under award-winning statements.
The former Odebrecht executive, each time he answered a question from the Public Ministry, emphasized that his reply was made “in accordance with the agreements and documented documentation”, and this is precisely the point that Valerio will focus on in the next hearings.
