VIDEO: Creditor seizes SLM device in Miami

A video shows how the aircraft is towed away.

A plane from the Surinamese Airline (SLM), which would fly to Suriname from Miami on Tuesday afternoon, has been seized. This is reported by the Surinamese newspaper De West.

The seizure follows after a considerable debt that SLM has to the creditor. It would be a payment arrears of up to a year, the newspaper writes. Passengers on departure were unpleasantly surprised.

Finance Minister Achaibersing confirmed this afternoon in the National Assembly (DNA) that there is a seizure. It is learned that an arrangement has been made with the owner and that US $ 650,000 has been paid to get the property released.

The minister hopes that the passengers can still fly back on Tuesday evening or during the night. He indicated that a structural solution must be devised to prevent these kinds of issues in the future. In an official message, the SLM said about this:

As indicated in previous announcements, the SLM is in discussion or negotiation with various actors in the context of restructuring. The SLM is also negotiating with the instructors of the B737 aircraft. However, it appears that during the negotiations the lessor of the B737 (PZ-TCT) decided for administrative reasons to temporarily ground the plane in Miami. The SLM and the shareholder are working hard to ensure a quick solution. The SLM does everything possible to transport the now stranded passengers back to Paramaribo as soon as possible and offers its sincere apology for the inconvenience that has arisen.
