In Grenoble, 130 police officers filed a request for conventional termination. They do not digest the comments made by Emmanuel Macron during an interview with Brut. Referring to “facies checks”, the Head of State announced the creation of an internet platform to denounce them.

In the aftermath ofexclusive interview granted by Emmanuel Macron to the Brut community, the Alliance police unions and SGP-Police-FO Unit have called for an end to identity checks. The president’s remarks on “police violence” and “face checks” do not pass. “The president lets go of the police” explains Yannick Biancheri, departmental secretary of the Alliance Police Isère union, who announces that in Isère, 180 police officers have filed a request for contractual termination, including 130 in Grenoble.
“180 police officers in Isère, 130 in Grenoble. How are we going to ensure the safety of everyone?” wonders Yannick Biancheri who estimates that there is already a shortage of 138 police officers in the department. He therefore asks the president’s support “and not the reverse”.
And this support must be expressed in a concrete way, in deeds and not in words, according to the main police unions. “We want actions, we want actions, we want laws, regulations that protect the cop” explains Brice Gajean, SGP Unit Police departmental delegate. “We want a minimum sentence for any assault on a police officer” adds Yannick Biancheri.
During the interview with the online media Brut, Emmanuel Macron explained that he wanted to face the issue of facial checks and announced the launch, in January, of a national platform for reporting discrimination managed by the State, the Defender of Rights and associations. The main peacekeepers’ unions reacted immediately by calling for an end to identity checks. Only the rescue missions are assured, the police no longer want to take any initiative so as not to take the risk of being accused of control in the face or disproportionate use of force.
