Visually, “C5 X” looks like a real giant. At 4.8 meters long, 1.87 meters wide and 1.48 meters high, the new model is right in the center of the D segment in terms of dimensions. On the other hand, when talking about its belonging to a specific car class, we can even get a little confused at this moment. A limousine with a hatchback back, a large trunk (its capacity is from 545 to 1640 liters with the back seat folded down), black plastic inserts on the fenders, as well as increased ground clearance like a proper jeep. In a word, in this car “Citroen” engineers wanted to collect all the best (and also the most demanded) that the automobile industry can provide its customers today.
“C5 X” is available both with a classic gasoline engine and in a plug-in hybrid version. The “Plug-in Hybrid” model has a power of 225 hp and is capable of 50 km on a full charge in 100% electric mode. The maximum driving speed using the electric drive is 135 km/h, while if it is necessary to go on longer trips, the internal combustion engine will come to the rescue – moreover, the electric motor will help to reduce the total fuel consumption as much as possible during such trips.
The broadcast test car is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine with 181 hp; despite its supposedly tiny working volume, it is quite sharp and responsive. As for the ride of the C5 X, it is smooth and soothing. It has comfortable seats (just like small sofas in the living room at home), front and rear side windows with special acoustic coating, and its suspension adjustment is also maximally oriented towards comfort.
“Citroen Advanced Comfort” active suspension knows how to live with road irregularities and bumps, and “C5 X” has a clearance worthy of a crossover. Therefore, even though it has only front-wheel drive, you can also go closer to nature with it.
“C5 X” is a completely modern car, its interior features both huge digital displays and a projection screen in the front windshield. It has a 360-degree surround view camera and the C5 X is also able to offer level two semi-autonomous driving that complies with current laws. “Highway Driver Assist”, which combines adaptive cruise control with the “Stop & Go” function and lane keeping assistant, is able to drive the car almost independently – this means that the driver no longer needs to adjust the driving trajectory and speed, as the vehicle can do it by itself.
In addition, the C5 X has a contactless key access system that unlocks the doors and allows you to start the engine by sensing the driver’s approach. The doors are automatically locked as soon as the driver moves away from the car.
“Citroen C5 X price is from 31,990 euros, the test car shown in the plot of the program costs 40 thousand euros, and the price of the “plug-in” hybrid with 225 hp power is around 50 thousand euros.
