Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer was extremely irritated during an interview on public broadcaster ORF when he was asked about both his government’s performance and opposition to Romania and Bulgaria’s entry into Schengen, according to Austrian publications The standard and Delivery man.
Karl Nehammer accused his interviewer of having incorrect data on the migration phenomenon and said that the newsroom should have been “better prepared” for the interview after the ORF journalist showed him data from the Ministry of the Interior in Vienna, according to which the main source of migrants is Serbia, via Hungary.
During the interview, the chancellor began to defend his veto from the JAI Council, at which point the moderator smiled, trying to stop him and present the official migration figures. Nehammer burst out nervously, saying “it’s nothing to laugh at”, but the journalist calmly explained to him that he wasn’t laughing, he just wanted to interrupt his tirade.
The exchange of words continued for several minutes on the subject of Schengen, in an aggressive tone, according to Der Standard.
Nehammer complained about the moderator’s alleged false claims about the “sensitive neighborly relationship” between Hungary and Romania, and advised him to prepare better for the show.
The moderator continued to present official data on migration from Serbia, via Hungary, and said he did not understand why Chancellor Nehammer “attacks him all the time”.
