VIDEO. Carriage horse faints in the middle of the street in New York due to high heat

Extreme heat also puts the animals to the test, especially if they have to provide prolonged physical effort. This Wednesday, August 10, a tourist carriage horse paid the price in New York (United States). Ryder, 14, fell ill in midtown Manhattan late afternoon. It was around 31°C that day.

Officers from the New York Police Department, NYPD, were filmed watering the visibly distressed horse as seen in the video above. To cool its body temperature, the police also poured buckets of ice on the animal. According to law enforcement at the scene, it took at least 45 minutes before they could get Ryder back on his feet. All this time, the animal remained on the asphalt in a state of distress.

According to several local media, before the arrival of the authorities, the driver of the carriage ordered the animal in bad shape to get up, slapping it on the side, forcing it to lean on its legs. A scene that scandalized many witnesses present in the street.

The NYPD said the incident was brought to the attention of Animal Protection Services as per standard procedure.
