NEW YORK – The New York City Police are searching for a duo who they say tried to kidnap a 5-year-old boy in Queens on Thursday, an attempt that was failed thanks to the actions of the boy’s mother.
According to police, the attempted kidnapping took place around 8 p.m. on Hillside Avenue when a person picked up the 5-year-old boy from the sidewalk and placed him in the back seat of his vehicle, while the second person sat in the front passenger seat.
However, the alleged kidnapping attempt was unsuccessful. Police say that when the first person got into the driver’s seat, the boy’s 45-year-old mother pulled the boy out of the car through the front passenger window, before the two people fled in their vehicle.
A surveillance video released by the police shows the distressing moments experienced by the child’s mother, when suddenly a man jumps out of a vehicle and grabs the child, forcing him to get into the car, while the child’s mother and other close people frantically treats to save him, finally managing to rescue him before the car runs away.
Our sister network NBC 4 New York spoke with the mother of the 5-year-old boy who was about to be kidnapped. She said she was going with her three children to meet her husband at work when the man approached her young son, grabbed him and put him in his car. He said it was at this point that he started screaming. She said that when her son got into the back seat of the car, that’s when she pulled him out the window.
A nearby store owner told News 4 that one of the men involved had been in his minutes before buying a beer.
The victim was not injured during the incident, according to police, who describe the first individual as a man in his 30s last seen wearing a white T-shirt, gray shorts and dark-colored sneakers.
