Video campaign denounces educational violence, almost a year after the law “

In a spot published on social networks and soon to be broadcast on the television, an association wants to encourage parents at “Change their behavior” by banning them “Ordinary educational violence” (VEO), officially banned in France since last summer.

This “anti-spanking” law, adopted and promulgated in July 2019, “Was necessary and essential, but not sufficient, because habits persist in homes”, explained at a press conference Dr Gilles Lazimi, campaign coordinator with the association “Stop VEO”.

In the clip produced by the agency Publicis and broadcast in one and three minute versions, a mother slaps her child because he voluntarily overturned his plate on the floor. The video also shows that she could have reacted differently, explaining to the little boy that “It’s okay to be angry”, But “That together, we have the power to make all the anger fly away”.

“Everyone is a little bit responsible for the safety of our children”

“We wanted to educate parents without giving them the feeling of questioning their methods of education, and without making them feel guilty”, added Gilles Lazimi.

“The law cannot do everything”, recalled the Secretary of State for Child Protection, Adrien Taquet. “The whole question now is to ensure its effectiveness. We have to change mentalities, but cultural changes are the longest, it infuses slowly ”, he added.

To promote this “Caring education culture”, parents must feel “Accompanied”, continued the secretary of state. Evoking a “Continuum of violence”, he stressed that “In three quarters of the cases, the dramatic situations started with small slaps”.

With the recent sanitary containment, violence against children has been “Brought to light”, helping to establish “A vigilant society” or “Each of us is a little bit responsible for the safety of our children”, according to him.
