This is a long overdue feature among users of the web and PC version of WhatsApp. Video calls are now available in the beta of the desktop application.
Will we finally have the right to make WhatsApp video calls on the computer? In any case, this is what the new update of the beta version of the application suggests. Indeed, if it is possible to send and receive messages from WhatsApp Web, it is still necessary to take out your phone to converse in audio or video. Nevertheless aware of the growing importance of videoconferencing, especially since the start of the pandemic, the Facebook subsidiary intends to review its copy. According to WABetaInfo, the application beta now allows you to make video calls from your computer as is the case for Messenger for example. The tools to activate it would be located at the top of the conversation and would thus make it possible to initiate a call or simply answer it. A window then opens to allow you to continue sending written messages simultaneously.
A limited number of users
For now, this feature is reserved for a limited number of users, but there is no doubt that it will finally arrive on our applications. However, it is difficult to know when this will be possible. According to our American colleagues, we will obviously not have to wait very long since the development of this feature is the priority for WhatsApp. However, it is also not known whether video calls will be end-to-end encrypted, as has been the case for video calls on mobile devices since 2018. It’s a safe bet that this is the direction WhatsApp will take. The firm could also strike a blow by integrating direct group calls, as it did for its mobile application.
