Paralympics 2024 – Swimming: the Portal brothers on the podium in the 400m freestyle. (.)
Lined up in the final of the 400m freestyle in the S13 category on Saturday, the two brothers were invited onto the podium together.
A family podium for French swimming. Already a double medalist in front of his home crowd (bronze in the 100m backstroke, and silver in the 100m butterfly), swimmer Alex Portal (22 years old) won a new silver medal in the 400m freestyle (S13, visually impaired swimmers) on Saturday 31 August at the Paris La Défense Arena. Second, behind Belarusian Ihar Boki, the Frenchman beat… his little brother, Kylian (17 years old), who took home the bronze. An unforgettable moment for the siblings, who shared their first Paralympic podium.
“I don’t really know what to think. I’m so disappointed, and at the same time so happy, reacted Alex Portal after his race. It’s so weird, I’ve never experienced an emotion like that,” he added. A happiness shared by his younger brother, who won his first medal at the Games. “We gave it our all, we’re both going to make it to the podium, it’s incredible” he said emotionally to the microphone of France Télévisions.
