One year of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia was marked by the announcement of the entry of a new variant codenamed B117. This British variant of the corona virus was detected in Indonesia during the sampling period from January to February 2021. A total of 7 cases of the B117 variant were found in 5 provinces, namely DKI Jakarta, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, South Kalimantan and East Kalimantan.
The B117 variant is said to have a faster transmission rate. WHO data states that as of December 2020, this variant had been found in 31 countries. And by the end of February 2021, the B117 variant was found in 101 countries. In Indonesia, since the first case of the B117 variant was announced in early March, tracing of the spread of this variant has continued.
