The Prime Minister Jean Castex was traveling to Caen (Calvados), this Friday, April 16, 2021. During his visit to the CHU, he was questioned by representatives of the “collective of state-certified nursing anesthetists (IADE) from Normandy”. A meeting at which Freedom, not invited from the “pool” of journalists authorized to follow the ministerial visit, was unfortunately unable to attend.
Informed by someone who was surprised at the absence of Liberté this Friday morning, we were able, despite everything, to talk to a member of this collective, who spoke with Jean Castex in the corridors of the great tower. Stationed in the Emergency Department in Caen, this IADE explains the reasons for their mobilization:
We simply want to save our profession! We want to be recognized in our daily practice.
A pair with the doctor, like the pilot and the co-pilot
IADEs are currently considered “advanced practice physician assistants” because of their two additional years of study after the three years of initial nursing training and two years of practice. “We have the status of Master 2,” continues the spokesperson for the Norman collective. However, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran wants to question this specificity. “
One project plans to equip “advanced practice nurses” with the same skills in emergency, resuscitation, critical care and pain management, but with less training. The IADE des Urgences insists:
We have the exclusivity of certain skills. An operation cannot be carried out without a doctor or nurse anesthetist in the room. We work in pairs with anesthetists, like the pilot of an airplane and his co-pilot.
While the Senate had unanimously voted to recognize the special status of IADE, the Minister of Health refused to adopt this text, according to the collective. “His door is closed, deplores the nurse anesthetist of the CHU de Caen. We alerted parliamentarians in the region. “
On Friday April 16, 2021, they gave the Prime Minister a personal letter written for the occasion, as well as the open letter that the national collective sent to Olivier Véran.
