Slovakian striker Pavol Regenda made his mark in his first match in the AHL lower overseas competition. After being transferred from Anaheim’s first team in the NHL to the farm, he scored for the San Diego Gulls on Bakersfield ice, but his team lost 2: 3.
All the goals of the match were scored in the third period. Regenda equalized the score 1: 1 in the 44th minute when defender Drew Helleson’s shot from the blue line hit the goal from close range. Moments later, the home team gained a decisive lead with two goals within two minutes.
In addition to scoring, the Slovakian striker scored three shots and a two-minute penalty for hooking in the first period.
Regonda has previously played five games in the first team of the “ducks”, in which he scored two points for assists. Subsequently he lost his place on the match roster and in three duels he was only in the position of a healthy replacement. With the Ducks jersey he impressed already in the preliminaries. In them, he was the leader of the team with seven Canadian points (3 + 4).
The current season is his first abroad. He has played the last two seasons in the Slovak extra league with Michaloviec’s shirt. After the season of his life, in which he made his Olympics debut (bronze) and the World Cup, he signed a two-way contract with Anaheim.
Another Slovakian forward also scored in AHL on Thursday night Miloš Kelemen, who six seconds before the final siren sealed Tucson’s 3: 1 triumph on the ice of the Calgary Wranglers with an empty net. It was his third goal and fourth point in the seventh game of the season.
