Video: A taxi driver in Minsk, Belarus rescues a risky protester from the police

59 protests, around 5,000 protesters, 364 detainees. This is what another of the 47 days of protests in Belarusian cities looked like, when thousands of people took to the streets again, this time disagreeing with the unannounced inauguration of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

One of the heroes of the day was the driver of the Yandex.Taxi transport service, who helped the protester escape from the police. The video of the incident was published by the Belarusian server Euroradio. On record, a young man fleeing OMON special forces unexpectedly gets into a taxi. The driver, whose face is invisible, did not fall into embarrassment, sharply added gas, hit the sidewalk, drove in the opposite direction and disappeared. He thus became a man for his own nation who saved the skin of his neighbor. The recording went around social networks and, according to their users, is a video of the day.

It was not without jokes. A parody Twitter account called “Sad Kolya” (maintained by the name of Alexander Lukashenko’s youngest son) immediately rated the taxi driver and gave him the highest reward, 5 stars.

He also nominated him for the post of Minister of Transport. “There aren’t as many stars in the sky as this taxi driver deserves,” Twitter users responded to the comments.
