Police and firefighters arrived at the scene before 4 p.m. According to our information, around 3:30 p.m., a two-storey building collapsed at 178 route de Genas, in Lyon. A building that adjoined a construction site, located in Villeurbanne.
70 firefighters dispatched
Five of the eight apartments in the building were occupied. Two minor injuries are to be deplored. A total of 70 firefighters were dispatched to the scene on Tuesday afternoon.
Traffic is blocked at the intersection of rue Saint-Charles and route de Genas, where nurses, police and firefighters are securing the perimeter and have deployed a ladder to determine the extent of the damage and look for additional potential injuries.
The collapsed wall was already covered with a work tarpaulin before the incident. Now, for some unknown reason, nothing separates these collapsed apartments on Tuesday from the earthworks that took place below.
Sector to avoid, therefore: the time of the intervention of the firefighters, some streets are closed to traffic.
