VIDEO ⟩ Truck crashed near Garkalne; one person died

According to the preliminary information available to the police, today, April 5, in Ropaži district, Garkalne parish, on the A2 Riga-Sigulda-Estonian border (Veclaicene) highway, a truck drove off the roadway and overturned at km 9. Cargo spilled from the truck at the scene of the accident.

One person died in a traffic accident. Traffic is difficult at the scene.

The state police explains the circumstances of the accident.

It has already been announced that in the past 24 hours, the State Police stopped ten drivers on Latvian roads under the influence of alcohol and one under the influence of narcotic substances, according to the information gathered by the VP.

Eight of the caught drunk drivers were heavily intoxicated – the concentration of alcohol in their bodies exceeded 1.5 per thousand, for which criminal liability is foreseen and, in addition to the punishment, the car is also confiscated if it belongs to the offender. If the drunk driver does not own the vehicle, then in addition to the fine, an amount of money is collected from him, which can reach the market value of the vehicle being driven.

Four drunk drivers and one drug-using driver were stopped in the Riga region, while two drunk drivers each were caught on the roads in Latgale, Vidzeme and Zemgale.

During the day, the VP recorded a total of 514 administrative violations in the field of road traffic, including 199 violations of the permitted driving speed and caught one aggressive driver, according to the data collected by the police.
