– You could say it’s a little wistful, at the same time as we probably should have finished by the time we did, says Magnussen to Nettavisen.
Just before the summer holidays, he finished recording the last season of the audience favorite “Side om side” on NRK. By then 100 episodes had been recorded.
The reason why he is now “full” of the program is that he will focus on new projects, and not least make a comeback in his hometown of Bergen.
– Very special
It was at the end of January that NRK announced that “Side om side” was giving up after ten years. The series has entertained Norwegian TV viewers since 2013, and is according to the channel’s most watched comedy series ever.
– It has been going on for over ten years, so it is very special. I think we will mark it properly when it is finished on TV, but for now it feels like normal, says Magnussen.
For those interested in culture and the general public, Magnussen is probably first known for his work in theater and award-winning roles he has done on various stages in the country.
But for a whole generation of young TV viewers, he has become known for his role as the clumsy and strange Jonas Kvåle in “Side om side”. The role was also his stepping stone into the television industry.
– The others had established careers, while I came from Bergen with a few theater roles to show for it. I needed a job and wanted to try my hand at television, so I had accepted the role anyway, he told me NRK in connection with the announcement of the final season.
Does not rule out a comeback
Despite the fact that the “Side om Side” era will soon be over, the actor does not hide that he and the rest of the actors felt it was the right time to call it quits.
– It was probably right for everyone to stop now. I was at NRK the other day and then I noticed that it was a bit strange not to work there anymore.
Although the tenth season, which premieres on August 26, is their last, the actor does not rule out that on a later occasion they may appear on screen in the iconic roles again.
– “Solsidan” picked up the thread again a few years later after they gave up, so you can always think that it can be done as well. But at least now it was right to give up, he says.
He must do this now
After several years in the TV industry with “Side om side” and a number of other TV series, Magnussen returns to the theater stage this autumn. This time, however, it will not be as an actor.
The 45-year-old is in charge of directing several performances both in Oslo and his hometown of Bergen.
– Now I will be directing a bit at Den Nationale Scene and Den Norske Opera with two different performances there, so it will be a hectic autumn, says Magnussen.

The comedian made his debut as a director at the Opera in 2021 with the first full-scale opera production before the pandemic “Orpheus in the underworld”. Now he makes a comeback with the same play.
In addition, he will turn his nose west and direct Den Nationale Scene in Bergen, where he will direct the play “Shockheaded Peter”. At the same time, he will also write on his own projects, which he hopes will become something in the future.
