Victory in the Players: Golfer Scheffler number one in the world

Ponte Vedra Beach

US golf star Scottie Scheffler has once again taken the top spot in the world rankings with his victory in the Players Championship, which featured top-class players.

The reigning Masters champion saw off England’s Tyrrell Hatton (276), Viktor Hovland of Norway and USA’s Tom Hoge (both 278) through.

Scheffler raked in record prize money of $4.5 million for his sixth win on the PGA Tour. After the four major tournaments, the Players Championship is the most important individual competition in golf.

Scheffler replaced Jon Rahm as number one in the world with the victory in the TPC Sawgrass. The Spaniard had to retire after the first day of the tournament in Florida due to an illness. Northern Ireland’s golf star Rory McIlroy, number three in the world, failed at the cut after two weak rounds and was eliminated early.

The four days of the tournament were spectacular on the famous 17th fairway of the TPC Sawgrass, the 113 meter long par 3 hole with an island green. The fans were able to celebrate three holes-in-one. On the first day, USA’s Hayden Buckley sunk his ball in the hole with just one shot to an ace. Two days later, England’s Aaron Rai did the same feat before USA’s Alex Smalley played another hole-in-one on the final day.
