Manchester City-Liverpool took place at the Etihad Stadium, on Friday (23/12/2022) in the morning WIB. The Citizens already threatened each other in the sixth minute with Cole Palmer’s shot going wide.
Eriling Haaland had given Man City a 1-0 lead when the game had lasted just 10 minutes. Kevin De Bruyne’s cross was successfully grabbed by the Norwegian striker.
Left behind by a goal, Liverpool ramped up the intensity of their attacks. Efforts to level the score at 1-1 only succeeded in the 20th minute after Fabio Carvalho completed James Milner’s decoy.
Man City almost quickly regained the lead in the 23rd minute. Haaland was a split second too late to meet Cole Palmer’s cross.
Liverpool have a chance in first half stoppage time. A cross Andy Robertson mouthed at the Manchester City goal was missed by Darwin Nunez and the score lasted 1-1 until half-time.
Man City could have gone 2-1 up when the second half had lasted just two minutes. Rodri set up Riyad Mahrez, whose first touch sent the ball rolling beautifully into the bottom corner.
The pace of the game becomes very interesting. Liverpool quickly accelerated after conceding and only allowed Man City to lead by a minute after Mohamed Salah leveled the score at 2-2 in the 48th minute.
Liverpool’s backline lost focus in the 57th minute. A short corner was deflected by De Bruyne for a cross, which was met by Nathan Ake’s header. 3-2 Man City ahead.
Man City have not let up their attacks after winning. Pep Guardiola’s adopted sons have even threatened Liverpool more and more often through crosses.
Liverpool can occasionally fight back. Hurried movements when entering the bottom third of the Man City defense meant that attacks often broke off.
Juergen Klopp’s troops could not develop the game in the remaining time. Until the end of the match, Liverpool were unable to score an equalizer and had to be willing to be eliminated.
