On Saturday, the Nigerian football representative Victor Osimhen extended his contract with the Italian club SSC Napoli until 2026. The twenty-four-year-old gunner thus ended speculations about his departure from Mount Vesuvius.
Osimhen came to SSC in the summer of 2020 for 75 million euros from Lille and immediately betrayed himself among the mainstays of the team. He scored ten league goals in his first season. He was most successful last year, in which he found the back of opponents’ nets in Serie A up to 26 times and played a significant role in winning the title. At the same time, he also became the best scorer of the competition. He played a total of 118 games for Napoli, scored 67 goals and assisted another 17.
In the summer and before the winter transfer period, many top clubs were interested in his services. For example, Chelsea, Liverpool, but also the Saudi Arabian Al-Hilal were interested. However, he decided to stay at SSC.
“Victor and Naples together until 2026,” wrote the club on social networks under the photo in which Osimhen and team owner Aurelio de Laurentiis signed a new contract. Napoli have not released any further information, but Italian media have reported that the exit clause is between €120m and €130m. Osimhen’s current contract was supposed to expire in the summer of 2025.
The defenders of the trophy are not doing so well in the ongoing season, they lose fourteen points from the 6th place to the first Inter Milan, and on Tuesday they were eliminated in the round of 16 of the cup after a humiliating home loss against Frosinone 0:4. They advanced to the knockout stage in the Champions League, but FC Barcelona awaits them in the round of 16.
