Olofsson got less playing time last winter and was out of the team for certain periods.

There were only 51 games and the point output dropped from 40 points, 28 goals and 12 assists, in 75 games in the 2022-23 season to 15 points, 7 goals and 8 assists.

– It was a big disappointment. I didn’t get my previous position at all and considering what I did, it was a bit frustrating, says Victor, who left Buffalo for Örnsköldsvik last week.

He asked through his agent to be drafted this season, but nothing happened.

On July 1, Victor will become an “unrestricted free agent” (known as a UFA) and free to go wherever he wants.

– Yes, he will want to find a new team in the fall. So for me, an interesting summer awaits, he says.

Do you want to stay in the NHL?

– I want to stay and play hockey at the highest level possible. I think I have the attributes to be able to put in an NHL team.

No thoughts on Switzerland or SHL?

– Not now. I want to stay in the NHL for a few more years.

Your older brother Jesper recently signed a multi-year contract with Modo?

– It feels like shit. I always follow Modo closely. It will be fun for him to come home and represent his parent club again. I will really be following every game the team has this fall.

Victor Olofsson: “Hope for a new adventure”

How big of a disappointment is it that you missed the playoffs again in Buffalo?

– We had as a goal to go to the playoffs, so it was sad that we did not manage the set goal.

– But you don’t always get what you want. Now I’m looking forward and hoping for a new adventure in the NHL, says Victor Olofsson.

Summer plans after the hockey World Cup?

– Spend time with my partner Taylor and their family at home in the summer cottage in Övik. Our daughter Vera is just over seven months old, so a lot is happening with her at the moment. I like being with the family, says Victor.

He played a total of 314 games for the Buffalo Sabers over six seasons, scoring 182 points, 90 goals and 92 assists.

Olofsson played out the 2-year contract he signed with the Sabers on July 13, 2022 worth 9.5 million dollars (about 103.5 million kroner) with an annual salary of 51.7 million kroner.
