Victor Johansson swam in the second heat of Saturday’s 1,500 meter freestyle trials. He was in a class of his own in his heat, and had to swim alone for large parts of the race.
– Around 900-1200 meters – in that no man’s land – it was the hardest. The 300 meters felt like an eternity, says Johansson.
Immediately after his heat, Victor Johansson sensed that the time trial would not be enough for one of the eight final places. When all four heats were swum, it turned out that his feeling was correct.

Victor Johansson had the eleventh fastest time overall. Thus, the WC in Doha is over for the 25-year-old, who can sum up the best championship of his life.
He came sixth in both the 400 and 800 meter freestyle, and has broken a total of three Swedish records.
The fact that after swimming for almost 15 minutes on Saturday morning he missed breaking his own Swedish record by only 14 hundredths did not bother him very much.
– When I set my pers at 1,500 (in July 2022) I was rested and had basically done nothing before. Now I’m at a WC, and to first swim 400 twice and then 800 twice takes a lot of strength, says Johansson.
– So I am very happy with where I am, and that we are on the right track. I got out what I wanted to get out here in the WC.
During the championship hair Victor Johansson passed the Olympic qualifying limits in both the 400 and 800 meter freestyle, and even if he is not formally selected yet, he can start looking towards Paris.
– Next week we go to Tenerife for a training camp, then a four-five week long high-altitude camp in Finland (artificial high altitude) awaits, says Victor Johansson.
