Victor Campenaerts is left with two cracks in his spine from a fall in the Czech Republic | BK cycling

Victor Campenaerts faces his first important appointments of the season. The Belgian time trial will take place on Thursday, August 20, and a few days later (Monday, August 24) there will be the European time trial in France.

But Campenaerts may not be able to fully defend his chances. The NTT Pro Cycling time trial rider celebrated his comeback in the Tour of the Czech Republic last week, but crashed with a few teammates during the team time trial on the opening day.

Campenaerts had problems with his back and had tests carried out in recent days. This revealed “two small cracks in his spine”.

“There are two cracks in L2 and L3 in the protrusions on the left. Something like that happens more often”, Campenaerts explains to our editorial team.

“It’s not dangerous and I can keep cycling, but it will be painful for 5 to 6 weeks,” Campenaerts said in his vlog.

“It’s not perfect, but it’s not a big problem either. Compare it to a rib fracture: it’s not nice, but you don’t have to stop your physical activities.”
