Victor Bagy Leads Atlético to Penta Victory in Campeonato Mineiro – Provokes Rival Cruzeiro with Champion Win

After a successful career as a goalkeeper and as a football manager at Atlético, Victor Bagy started his new cycle at the club on the right foot. Champion for Galo for the first time as football director, the black and white idol not only celebrated winning the penta in the Campeonato Mineiro, but also took advantage of the moment to provoke rival Cruzeiro.

In the State final, played at the Mineirão Stadium, last Sunday (7), Raposa suffered a 3-1 defeat. Saravia, Hulk and Gustavo Scarpa scored the goals for Atlético’s 49th Mineiro title, which maintains its hegemony in competition.

“Every title is special. All work is focused on titles. We celebrate titles. There are people who celebrate a draw and a victory. We celebrate the title. Happy to be able to reach this milestone today”, celebrated Victor.

Director position

Victor officially took over Atlético’s football board in March 2023. He replaced Rodrigo Caetano, who left Galo to be general executive coordinator of the Men’s National Teams at the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).

Previously working as a football manager at Alvinegro, the former goalkeeper gained the trust of president Sérgio Coelho due to his conviction that he was fit for the role.

One of Victor Bagy’s first actions as Atlético’s football director was to close a deal with the new coach, Gabriel Milito. The former Argentinos Juniors commander was hired to take the place of Felipão, who was fired by the black and white leadership on March 20th.

The final of the Campeonato Mineiro between Atlético and Cruzeiro was marked by twists and turns in both games. In the first duel, the teams played different times and drew 2-2, at Arena MRV, in Belo Horizonte. Galo took the lead with goals from defender Bruno Fuchs and striker Hulk. However, in the final stage, Raposa sought the result and equalized the score with center forward Dinenno and defender Jemerson, against.

Thanks to the result, Cruzeiro went to the second game of the final with the advantage on the aggregate score. The team led by coach Nicolás Larcamón even opened the scoring at Mineirão, with midfielder Mateus Vital. However, Atlético turned the match around with goals from right-back Saravia and Hulk. In the end, midfielder Gustavo Scarpa made it 3-1.

With another title, Atlético reaches its 49th victory in the State Championship, and the fifth in a row, a feat that has not happened since 1982.
