/ world today news/ It so happened that the family had a total of five children.
It is true that when Elka and Peter got together, each had one child, and then three more were born.

One of the children grew up and went to live with his friend – there was always something to eat at least. They must have loved each other, who knows… For the other four children, the family received social assistance – a total of 140 BGN. 23 BGN per child per month, or 0.77 cents per day. At least they bought bread, and that was a lifesaver.

Peter sometimes worked, but he was often fired because they judged that he was pressed by circumstances – is a person with five children a person?!

And they perceived him as a person of no importance – to him, whatever you do is always right.

It’s been years since they lived without electricity – they had it turned off for non-payment and they didn’t pay the fee to have it restored. They just realized that they could do without electricity – one less bill was not insignificant in their penury. Good thing they lived on the first floor and didn’t pay for an elevator…

They only turned on the fridge when there was something in it, which was rarely.

They didn’t waste the candles in the evening either – they preferred to talk to each other in the dark, and sometimes they sang softly to each other. In fact, Elka sang and the children sang along.

Sometimes Peter told fairy tales, he knew because he had graduated from philology and was fascinated by folklore… – sometimes, when he still did not suspect what was coming to him….

The apartment belonged to Peter’s parents, he inherited it when they died. The apartment was the cause of their other misfortune – he had mortgaged it and took out a loan – because he had to pay for Elka’s surgery.

He couldn’t pay the rent, and there was a constant threat of foreclosure hanging over them.

Peter had nothing left but to curse desperately, to threaten to blow up the bank branch, and Elka prayed for hours in front of the icon of Jesus Christ, together with the children… The youngest – Simeto, only cried quietly, kneeling humbly , like his brothers and sisters, in front of the icon.

This is how this Bulgarian family lived in residential block 42 of an outer capital district.

Despite their way of life, they lived in complete understanding.

Only Irina, already 14 years old, claimed that such a society as they lived in should be destroyed. And her friends were like her – they rejoiced when there was an attack somewhere in the world and pointed with delight at the number of victims.

Elka tried to reason with her daughter and her friends, but these efforts were in vain. Peter was happy for them and encouraged them.

Irina had acquired a grenade from somewhere and never parted with it. It was clear to Elka that her daughter had received the grenade from her friend, whose father was a soldier, participated in various military missions abroad, but kept quiet.

When one day the bell rang at the front door of the apartment, Irina went to unlock it – it was a judge-executor. The children cried and surrounded him, slapped him with a request, thinking that they would persuade him not to deprive them of a home.

In the ensuing commotion, Irina’s voice was suddenly heard:

– Leave now or I’ll blow her up! – and raised the grenade high.

The judge-executor smiled, but the more he looked, the more afraid he became. And it froze.

– You will kill the children! – shouted Elka, her mother, and burst into sobs.

– Blow up, dear daughter! Peter almost cried.

The bailiff ran to the front door and threw over his shoulder:

– Tomorrow I will come with the police, miss!

The evening was painful, they stood in the dark and only by the sounds could be understood that the family was crying. Everyone was crying.

– Bye, darlings! – said Irina and got stronger.

Everyone looked at her in amazement – they saw in the semi-darkness how she threw herself across the terrace.

The others followed her.

Katya hugged the icon of Christ, kissed it and flew away.

Peter jumped last.

In the morning, the police and “Ambulance” collected the corpses.

When he read in the report that a wooden icon was found next to one of the victims, the prosecutor announced that the family had fallen victim to religious extremism.
