Jakarta –
Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Ma’ruf Amin appealed to the public not to be afraid of saying ‘amen’ when praying. Ma’ruf said saying ‘amen’ during prayer could not be replaced.
“We shouldn’t be like children. The matter of ‘amen’ doesn’t mean a legislative candidate, right? Amen has always existed,” said Ma’ruf in response to a question at the Vice President’s Palace, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (20/12/2023) .
It is known that candidate pair number 1 for the 2024 presidential election, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin), has the abbreviation AMIN. Meanwhile, the meaning of the word ‘amen’ in prayer or while praying, is as a request to ‘accept the prayer’. In the KBBI, the word ‘amen’ also means accept it, grant it, that’s what you should say when praying or after praying.
However, according to Ma’ruf, people do not need to worry about saying amen in prayer because it is impossible to replace it with other words.
“If people say brotherhood… yes, you have to say yes. So what, replace it? Yes, it’s impossible,” said Ma’ruf.
“And everyone knows that, so I don’t think that’s necessary that’s it…. Like that, what is it, don’t be like children, we are allergic to the real problem, yes, that’s not what it’s for, right? Amen is not for the candidate, but in response to the prayer of the person praying sisterhood, yes must be amen If not, he said what? Yes, of course not correct. Keep amen,” said Ma’ruf.
