vice President Ma’ruf Amin said there were two options that President Joko Widodo could take (Jokowi) If Mahfud MD resigned from the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam).
Ma’ruf said the two options were Jokowi having to appoint someone as the definitive Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs or a temporary official.
“Later the President will consider whether a new or temporary Coordinating Minister is needed until the end, that will be the President’s prerogative,” said Ma’ruf during a working visit to KRMT Wongsonegoro Hospital, Semarang, Central Java which was broadcast on the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia’s YouTube page, Friday ( 1/26).
According to Ma’ruf, there is no problem if Mahfud wants to resign as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. Ma’ruf believes that this is the right of every minister in the cabinet.
However, he confirmed that the decision regarding Mahfud’s replacement would be Jokowi’s prerogative.
“I think, as the President said, if someone wants to resign, that’s their right, if a minister resigns, that’s their right. So there’s no problem,” said Ma’ruf.
If Mahfud really decides to step down, Ma’ruf hopes that there will be no disturbance in the Advanced Indonesia cabinet if that happens.
“Yes, I hope there will be no disturbance. Firstly, it is the right of a minister to resign, of course a definitive minister will be appointed or appointed who knows exactly the issues related to Political, Legal and Security Affairs. Therefore, I don’t think it will be too disturbing,” he said.
Mahfud Md had expressed his intention to resign from the position of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.
If he is no longer a minister, Mahfud, who is also a vice presidential candidate, feels he can have more freedom to disclose data because he is no longer in government.
“I actually planned to resign a long time ago when the first debate was about to start,” said Mahfud Md. after the Prof. Collision discussion event in Semarang, Central Java on January 22.
