Vice President Kamala Harris to Kick Off Democratic Campaign in Wisconsin, Focus on Abortion Rights

New York : Vice President Kamala Harris will kick off her Democratic campaign in Wisconsin on Monday with the fight to preserve abortion rights as a key issue. Capturing a state with roughly equal strength for both parties is crucial in the 2024 election, so Harris will try to turn the issue into a vote in those states in particular.

President Joe Biden is joining Harris on the campaign trail in Virginia on Tuesday. Last November, Democrats were able to win a landslide victory in both chambers of the Virginia legislature in a campaign that highlighted this issue. It will also be the first time this year that First Lady Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Douglas Mhomph will attend the ceremony.

Harris has led the Biden administration’s most vigorous campaign on the issue since the Supreme Court’s 1973 abortion rights were stripped in June 2022 by Donald Trump-appointed justices. Harris will be one of the most prominent voices opposing the Republican Party’s calls for stricter abortion restrictions.

After sharing the stage with Biden in Virginia, Harris will travel across the country with the Democratic Party’s campaign. Announcing the trip in December, she said: “Terrorists in our country are trying to take away our hard-won freedoms. They’re trying to block abortion in all 50 states. They’re trying to threaten doctors with criminal charges. Women who need abortions have to travel to other states.

“I will continue to fight to preserve our fundamental rights. I will stand with every woman in America who insists that the right to her own body belongs to every woman, not to the government.”

Many conservative states have voted in favor of Democrats since they took up the fight. But many states strongly oppose abortion. In Texas, a woman was denied an abortion even after a medical emergency.

In 2023, Harris traveled to eight states and held a ‘Fight for Our Freedoms’ campaign in colleges. The ‘Reproductive Freedom’ campaign will start on Monday. The party will organize many campaigns and rallies. Biden-Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said: “Vice President Harris is once again emerging as a powerful political force. Her presence will be invaluable in this election.”

Harris’ approval rating is not impressive: 37.5%. Biden himself has only 39.1%. But the party hopes they can influence electorally critical groups: non-white, low-income people.
