Vice Minister Urges Parents to Protect Children with Pediatric Covid-19 Vaccine Before School Starts

As a preventive measure, the Vice Minister of Promotion, Epidemiological Surveillance and Traditional Medicine, Max Enriquez, recommended that parents protect their children against Covid-19 with the pediatric vaccine before the start of school classes, scheduled for February 5th.

“We recommend that the days before the start of classes, when 30 to 40 students will be concentrated in a single environment, it is better that they be protected, not only with the vaccine but with protection mechanisms such as the proper use of a mask, the alcohol gel and constant hand washing,” he stated, according to a press release.

The pediatric vaccine is applied to girls and boys from 5 to 11 years of age. For those with underlying or chronic diseases, they receive three doses: the first, upon contact, when they arrive at the health center; the second, three weeks after the first (21 days); and the third, six months after the second.

For those who did not receive any anti-Covid vaccine, a single dose is applied.

“In this time of COVID-19 outbreaks, we need the participation of the population, the vaccines are free, they are certified, they are available, the staff is waiting to vaccinate and the supplies are available in each of the establishments,” Enriquez insisted. .

He recalled that more than 600,000 vaccines were distributed to the nine departmental health services, so pediatric and adult doses are available in more than 3,800 health centers throughout the country.
