A professional of Vibonese origins was elected yesterday as the new director of the Department of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Perugia: it is Professor Vincenzo Nicola Talesa who obtained 214 votes out of 233 voters, practically a plebiscite.
Full professor of applied biology, Professor Talesa has solid experience in the administration ranks of the University of Perugia. Before reaching the position of Director of the Department of Medicine and Surgery, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Perugia and for two terms Director of the Department of Experimental Medicine. During his long university career he has carried out extensive and documented scientific activity both in Italy and abroad, collaborating with important research centers on the topics he deals with. The single candidacy for the Direction of the Department is the result of the rediscovered union of intentions of the members of the three departments that concurred to form the School of Medicine.
The election of the Director of the Single Department is in the wake of the renewal of the University of Perugia, a project inaugurated by the Rector Oliviero and fully shared by the Department of Medicine, whose intention is to requalify the University through the enhancement of skills and excellence , greater integration of research groups to improve performance. It will be the task of the new Director to organize the nascent Department and to initiate policies for integrating and relaunching teaching, research and assistance activities relevant to the departmental skills.
