Vibonati, victim of killer caregiver: “Excruciating pain before dying”

It ended shortly after 3pm, at the morgue of the civil hospital of Agropolithe autopsy on the body of Gerardo Chintemi, the 96 year old from Vibonati who was allegedly killed by Mario Eutizia, the 48-year-old carer of the Neapolitan. An autopsy requested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office Latina during the investigations that would see Eutizia as the author of four murders, as confessed by the 48-year-old last August. An affair that, despite himself, also involved Gerardo Chintemi, the last elderly man cared for by Eutizia and who died last March 4th in Vibonates under circumstances, at this point, all to be ascertained. The 96-year-old would in fact be the latest victim of the carer, a self-confessed criminal, who would have found death at the “hands” of Eutizia.

This last one he allegedly administered drugs in excessive quantitieseven four times higher than expected. Hence the need for the Latina Prosecutor’s Office to order the exhumation of the body, which took place this morning, and the necessary autopsy. Several samples were taken from Chintemi’s organs, from whom the pacemaker was also removed, to understand what the real causes of his death were. Furthermore, it was the task of the Carabinieri of the Vibonati Station to deliver to the coroner a bottle containing a pharmacological liquid, used by the carer, and to be examined.

A story on which Chintemi’s family, defended by the lawyer Franco Maldonato, he wants to see clearly. «We asked – through our medical legal consultant – to check the condition of the esophagus and trachea – declared the lawyer Maldonato at the end of the autopsy – The suspect actually used a tracheal aspirator to free the patient from mucus, professing himself to be an expert in this practice. – the lawyer continued – On these occasions, especially the last evening, Chintemi emitted heart-rending screams of pain and showed signs of physical and mental dejection. Since Eutizia was in charge of administering oxygen therapy, the family recorded that, in the last days of the deceased’s life, she increased the supply to the maximum and had stopped giving him heart and diabetes medicines, claiming that the patient was unable to swallow. Finally, we represented to the Technical Consultant of the Public Prosecutor that on the last evening before his death, the deceased was helpless, no longer moved and complained, saying he felt very strong pain everywhere, while in the days immediately preceding, Chintemi had lunch and dinner at the table, obviously using the wheelchair».

A series of elements, those provided by the lawyer Maldonato that will serve to reconstruct the entire story and shed light on what happened in the last months of Gerardo Chintemi’s life. The lawyer’s statements are echoed by those of the 96-year-old’s family «Whoever knows Eutizia and whoever knows something, speak up, we want the truth». The investigation continues. The autopsy results will be ready in two months. By mid-November, the Prosecutor’s Office will have a clearer picture of the causes of death of the 96-year-old from Vibonati and also of the other alleged victims of the caregiver.
