Viareggio, a well-known beach entrepreneur is mugged, she hits him with her car, takes her bag and runs away. He dies in hospital. A video frames her

She is now in prison in Pisa, where there is a women’s section, Cinzia Dal Pino, the 65-year-old shopkeeper from Viareggio, in the province of Lucca, arrested on charges of voluntary homicide for having hit with her car and purposely caused the death of Said Malkoun, the 47-year-old Algerian who had robbed her of her bag. She was nailed by a video taken by the cameras of a shop on the street: a sequence of shocking images, about a minute and 20 long, in which the man can be seen walking on a sidewalk in Viareggio, then the arrival of the woman’s car that swerves towards him and hits him several times at moderate speed. Immediately after, the same 65-year-old gets out of the car, takes back the bag that had been stolen from her, gets back in and drives away.
Now the entrepreneur is awaiting the validation hearing and the preliminary hearing scheduled for tomorrow morning at the Lucca court. The woman was robbed in the street, at knifepoint, after she had left a restaurant where she had dined with friends. Immediately afterward, the woman began looking for the robber and once she had located him, she hit him three times in a row with her car.
The League intervenes in the case and asks that the woman not be investigated for voluntary homicide. Deputy Secretary Andrea Crippa states that “the judiciary must absolutely take into account the context, the very particular situation and the fear that this lady certainly had at that moment. All mitigating factors that must be carefully considered. Unfortunately, the total lack of certainty of punishment and the practically total lack of trust that Italians have in justice leads to events of this type”. For the League representative, “before condemning the lady, the case must therefore be carefully evaluated and it is necessary to reflect on the reason for such an action. Which must be sought in the inability of the Italian judiciary to make the citizens of this country feel safe”.
The 47-year-old who was hit was rescued but later died in hospital. The police, thanks to the video, traced the license plate and identified the woman; it was immediately ruled out that it was a case of a hit-and-run driver. The woman was charged with voluntary homicide.
The episode has sparked mixed reactions on social media: quite a few people are defending the shopkeeper. “Do-it-yourself justice is not the Wild West, it’s self-defense out of desperation. Total and unconditional solidarity,” is one of the comments posted today on X.
