The Province of La Spezia will appeal against the decision of the Municipality of Riomaggiore to reopen, for a fee, the Via dell’Amore for locals and tourists alike, the path overlooking the sea in the Cinque Terre National Park, a World Heritage Site, closed since 2012 due to a landslide and restored after two years of work. The announcement was made by the mayor and president of the province of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini in a live video on social media.
“The Municipality of Riomaggiore wants to charge 10 euros even for the people of La Spezia, after all the money allocated by the Liguria Region and the Government, all the inconveniences we have to face to manage the eight million people who pass through the station and the city of La Spezia to go to the Cinque Terre – he reports – we had the bitter surprise of seeing the Via dell’Amore granted free of charge to the people of La Spezia only after 5 pm, in a crafty way to try to take the people of La Spezia away from the city center to go and see the Via dell’Amore and stop for dinner or an aperitif there. It is not the right way to relate to the community of La Spezia”.
«We are acquiring the documents that led to the decision of the Municipality of Riomaggiore, – continues Peracchini – we will appeal in the appropriate venues based on what our lawyers will find, we will try to understand how it is possible to close a road to the people of La Spezia after a thousand years that it has been open, the lawyers will have fun, I invite the Municipality of Riomaggiore to review a wrong decision and to modify it».
