La Via dei Librai has set the dates for 2024: two phases of the event, 23 and 24 April the initiatives with schools. From the 25th to the 28th the book festival with presentations, meetings and the fair along the Cassaro with booksellers and publishers welcomed, as always, by the members of the Cassaro Alto Association which promotes the care and development of the ancient Cassaro.
The journey of the ninth edition of La Via dei Librai began with the Crociferi with the desire to share that has always characterized the important literary event at the heart of the Arab-Norman journey. This is what Giovanna Analdi, president of the Cassaro Alto Association, Giulio Pirrotta and Francesco Lombardo, of the La Via dei Librai committee, underlined in their speeches.
“The event has grown a lot in these nine years and the ever-increasing participation among citizens and foreigners confirms the intuition of reviving a tradition and culture of books and reading that has been typical of Cassaro over time. For the ninth edition, we hope for further growth. The numerous collaborations that enrich the event’s offering every year, in fact, mean the love for books, booksellers and Cassaro” they said.
The event, therefore, will return in the period of the year in which it has already consolidated its presence with an audience that exceeded 130 thousand units during the six days of the last edition. The call for participation was also presented, the deadline for which is January 31, 2024. Confirmed the
six sections through which it will be possible to participate: booksellers, publishers, institutions, authors, schools, booklovers.
The event will be increasingly digital with a dedicated app and live broadcasts from the main stage. One of the most important innovations will be the presence at the fair’s stalls of bookseller assistants who will be trained in these months. Maurizio Zacco, responsible for relations with booksellers, and Nicola Macaione, representative of the Italian Booksellers Association in Palermo, spoke about it: “It will be a support for smaller exhibitors, booksellers and publishers, who thus
may be present, without additional costs. It is the first experiment to be done in Italy.”
Finally, the book-wine marriage, before the presentation of the novel falconer by Fabio Ceraulo, which preceded the launch of the ninth edition of the Via dei Librai. Subsequently the “presentation” like a book, of La Monaca, a Syrah from the historic Sicilian winery Tasca d’Almerita. Costanza Chirivino, manager of the Sallier de La Tour estate, “told it”: “Books and wines have in common the ability to tell stories and to recognize the importance of time and waiting”.
