There is confidence at FC Utrecht that it may still enter Europe. The club’s lawyers are considering three options to enforce a European ticket.
Football International reports this. Utrecht finished sixth, but is not allowed to play European football, while number five Willem ll is allowed to. The cup final has also been canceled. Utrecht is angry about that.
After the decision of the KNVB, the major shareholder Frans van Seumeren announced that he would take legal action. The lawyers are now fully engaged in enforcing a place in Europe. One of those lawyers is Frans de Weger, who successfully assisted ADO Den Haag in the fight against relegation. Besides being a lawyer, De Weger is also a CAS arbitrator.
According to VI, the lawyers see three options to still be right: through Dutch law, UEFA and the sports tribunal CAS. Utrecht has now knocked on the door of UEFA and is confident about the ruling.
In other countries, an attempt is being made to simply complete the cup final. The KNVB is also working on a lobby for exhibition games in August. If that succeeds, then the cup final can also be played, says Utrecht. The union also announced that all competitions must be completed before August 3, but Utrecht was told by UEFA that this is not a hard requirement.
