The Volkshochschule Salzburg is planning two new locations in Pongau. Despite the lockdown and the lack of course participants, the VHS director can also gain something positive from the pandemic: Participants from other cities and countries can take part in the courses, like a culture enthusiast from Washington recently.
The Volkshochschule Salzburg looks back on a year with empty course rooms. “About 80 percent of the courses had to be canceled,” says director Nicole Slupetzky. In normal times, more than 40,000 people from Salzburg attend adult education courses each year. In the previous year, 3,000 people took part in the digital courses and workshops. Subsidies from the city and the country (150,000 euros each) helped the institution above all through the first lockdown.
