This year’s media prizes will be awarded in Bergen on Wednesday night, where a total of 21 prizes will be awarded from Ole Bull Scene.
It is three years since the last physical conference in Bergen.
VG won the generous award National News Website of the Year. The justification states the following:
“This year’s national news website is the absolute favorite news website for Norwegians when it hits. They can point to a wild digital development in the last year. Now VG + alone is the circulation winner. They set the agenda, cover an enormous breadth of cases and deliver world-class excavation journalism. They set the standard for the rest of the industry when it comes to journalistic methods, product development, innovation, audience contact and breaking news. An impressive innovative media house that always dares to test new ways of telling stories and that is constantly looking for new digital legs to stand on ».
In addition, VG also won the awards Newspaper Cover of the Year, Web TV Concept of the Year, Digital History of the Year and Current Affairs Podcast of the Year.
Aftenposten and Bergens Tidende walked away with the “Great Journalist Award”.
Jury leader Finn E. Våga says the prize is shared between two media houses “because both were journalism of the highest quality”, writes Medier24.
– The award-winning journalism’s thorough journalism reveals how trust and power are abused. Through patient digging, they find truths, even if they are tried to be kept hidden. This is journalism of great social significance – and which strengthens democracy’s immune system, says Våga.
Bergens Tidende receives the award for revealing the motives behind when a Russian company tried to take over Bergen Engines. The government eventually stopped the sale for security policy reasons, and Bergen Engines was instead sold to British Langley Holdings.
At Aftenposten, the award goes to Storting investigators, who revealed that a number of politicians have been wrongfully given commuter housing, and not least a Storting without control.
The big journalist prize is 100,000 kroner.
Filter Nyheter editor Harald Klungtveit is awarded the Sjur Holsen Memorial Prize for Filter’s journalism on extremism in society.
– For us at Filter Nyheter, this is a huge inspiration and not least a kick in the rear to gear up and get even better in this area, Klungtveit said from the stage.
