Wolfsburg – Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg will fly to their training camp in Austria on Friday without Croatian international Marin Pongracic.
However, the reason for this is not the disputes between the club and the central defender who was last loaned to Borussia Dortmund. The 24-year-old has been on sick leave for several days and therefore missed out on team training.
“Marin is ill, it will take a little longer. It may seem strange, but it’s nothing constructed,” confirmed VfL Managing Director Jörg Schmadtke to the “kicker”.
Pongracic had sued Wolfsburg for a payment of 250,000 euros several months ago because, in his opinion, he was entitled to a bonus for qualifying for the Champions League in the previous season. Those responsible at VfL are of the opinion that the move to Dortmund and the suspension of his contract in Wolfsburg means that there is no right to this bonus payment. Since Pongracic also made negative public statements about the club, VfL filed a counterclaim and demanded a contractual penalty of 85,000 euros for the former Bayern Munich youth player.
A court date scheduled for early June was canceled due to ongoing settlement negotiations. Nevertheless, because of this history, Pongracic apparently no longer has a sporting future in Wolfsburg. Schmadtke speaks of a “difficult constellation. We have to see how it goes.”
