Wolfsburg – VfL Wolfsburg has prematurely extended the contract with sports director Marcel Schäfer. The 37-year-old’s contract is now valid until 2025, as announced by the Lower Saxony Bundesliga club.
Schäfer has been responsible for sporting decisions at VfL together with Managing Director Jörg Schmadtke since 2018. Wolfsburg finished last season in fourth place and qualified for the Champions League.
«I am proud and happy to be part of this project and I look forward to continuing to work alongside Jörg Schmadtke to ensure that the path we started here three years ago continues upwards and that we meet the challenges that face us, will master together, ”said Schäfer according to the association’s announcement.
The former German international was also active in Wolfsburg for a long time when he was playing. With 312 compulsory games, he is the club’s record player.
