VfL Wolfsburg appeals against judgment

Will this action be successful? VfL Wolfsburg appealed to the DFB against the Pokal-Aus judgment. The reason for this was a mistake by Wolfsburg coach Mark van Bommel.

VfL Wolfsburg has appealed against the judgment of the sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) on the evaluation of the DFB Cup game against SC Preußen Münster. The Lower Saxony announced on Tuesday.

The Wolfsburg team was subsequently deprived of their 3-1 victory in Münster due to a faulty substitution. The sports court had granted the regional league’s objection to the valuation of the first round game after an oral hearing on Monday in Frankfurt / Main. The game was rated 2-0 for the Prussians.

Wolfsburg’s head coach Mark van Bommel had brought on six players in the match on August 8th. The Dutchman made three substitutions during regular time, and three other professionals were added in extra time. According to the DFB statutes, this is not allowed. Accordingly, Admir Mehmedi should no longer have been substituted for Maximilian Philipp.

The Champions League participant was apparently not aware of the relevant provisions of the DFB. In the corresponding paragraph 31 it says: “During the game five players may be exchanged. An additional substitution going beyond this in games with overtime is not permitted.”
