Marco Grote (47) succeeds Daniel Thioune (46) at VfL Osnabrück.
Grote receives a two-year contract with the Lower Saxony, as the association announced. The “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” had previously reported on the agreement. Grote had trained the Werder Bremen U19s until the summer. For the Bremen native, VfL is the first stop as head coach in professional football.
“In personal conversations with Marco Grote, he convinced us with his high level of expertise,” said VfL sports director Benjamin Schmedes. “His idea of football and ideas for the further development of players fits our requirement profile and our team.” Grote will be officially presented on Monday at a press conference.
Thioune had left Osnabrück after last season and is now a coach at Hamburger SV.
