VfL Bochum: Fears about left-backs and test defeat at second division club 1. FC Köln

VfL Bochum missed out on their sense of success. In the test against 1. FC Köln there was a 2:3. Maximilian Wittek had to go out injured early on.

The VfL Bochum used the week without games for a test with the second division team 1. FC Cologne. The desired feeling of success was not there; after 90 minutes there was a 2:3 last-minute defeat.

VfL and coach Peter Zeidler arrived without eight players who were either injured or with their national teams. There were two pieces of bad news in the first ten minutes.

First FC took the lead after six minutes through Sargis Adamyan, Maximilian Wittek was injured when he conceded – after ten minutes it was over for him and Anthony Losilla came into the game.

As a result, VfL got better after a weak start and earned an equalizer at the break. Moritz Kwarteng scored and once again exposed 1. FC Köln’s defensive problems. Until the half-time whistle, VfL now had the upper hand, but Marvin Schwäbe and a weak conversion of chances stood in the way of the Bochum team making it 2-1.

That happened shortly after the break. Cologne lost the ball again in the build-up, in the end Moritz Broschinski scored to make it 2-1, but it only lasted four minutes. Then on the other side, after an assist from Marvin Obuz, it was Luca Waldschmidt who was able to make it 2-2 from close range.

Afterwards, both coaches exchanged cheerfully. It was better for FC, who called for a penalty after an alleged foul by Jakov Medic on Steffen Tigges. Lucky for VfL. Shortly afterwards, Tigges had a chance to make it 3-2, but he was denied by former Cologne keeper Timo Horn. On the other hand, VfL almost struck late, but former Essen player Marvin Obuz prevented the score from 2:3 with his defensive action.

It was the host who put the finishing touches. After a corner, it was the youngster Neo Telle, who had been substituted at half-time, who took advantage of a mistake by Horn, who had previously saved several times. After the goal it was over.
