Two-time German international Mahmoud Dahoud is back in the Bundesliga seven months after his contract with Borussia Dortmund ended and he moved to Brighton & Hove Albion. VfB Stuttgart has now officially confirmed the 28-year-old midfielder’s loan until the end of the season, including a purchase option.

“We are pleased that Mo Dahoud, a player who will make us even better, has chosen VfB Stuttgart,” explained VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth. “Mo has already proven his enormous footballing quality in the Bundesliga and internationally. We are sure that he will quickly find his way around us and will therefore be a valuable additional option for our game from now on.”

According to media reports, the purchase option that the Swabians can exercise at the end of the season is around 9 million to 10 million euros. In Stuttgart’s history, only two players have been more expensive, including the permanent transfer of top striker Serhou Guirassy last summer, which cost €9 million.

Dahoud is under contract in Brighton until 2027, but has not played a sporting role there for weeks. On matchday 13, the former Dortmund and Gladbacher was sent off with a red card after five starting eleven appearances in the league and has only been allowed to play for one half since then. Dahoud’s market value increased for the first time in two years in December, rising from 12 million to 14 million euros.

At VfB, various midfielders have been mentioned as possible new additions in recent weeks, while the center is well occupied and long-term with Atakan Karazor and Angelo Stiller. According to reports, Yannik Keitel from SC Freiburg has already been signed as an addition for the coming season. The Stuttgart team brought Deniz Undav from Brighton this season, including a purchase option. German clubs can still be active on the transfer market until Thursday, 6 p.m.

After his move, Dahoud said: “It’s nice to be able to play in the Bundesliga again. VfB is a great club with a great tradition and great fans. The team plays exciting and impressive football. I already know a few players from the U21 national team. I’m looking forward to seeing you again at VfB and can’t wait to get started on the pitch with the team.”
