VfB Lübeck urgently needs to score points in Cologne in order to maintain their hope of staying in the league. But Viktoria Köln has a 17-year-old in the starting line-up who is playing great.
Cologne – Third division football team VfB Lübeck lost its first game under the new coaching duo Jens Martens and Bastian Reinhardt and can have fewer and fewer hopes of staying in the league. In the 0-1 (0-0) draw on Sunday at Sportpark Höhenberg, 17-year-old Said El Mala scored for Viktoria Köln (66th minute). The Hanseatic League is still in 19th place in the table.
Lübeck impressed in the first half with a solid defensive performance and relied on quick advances. Marius Hauptmann (26th) was only denied in front of the goal by Viktoria keeper Ben Voll and was unlucky with the referee just before the break: Michael Schultz (45+2) passed Hauptmann in the penalty area, Patrick Alt wrongly decided against a penalty .
The big performance for Cologne’s Said El Mala came in the second half: The 17-year-old debutant left Florian Egerer standing and scored from a tight angle to win. dpa
