In the second game of the season in the Rhineland League against FC Cosmos Koblenz VfB Linz suffered its second defeat of the season. The Kaiserberg team had a chance against the Oberliga relegated team from Koblenz, but in the end the individual class of the opponent was the deciding factor. Thomas Schuster’s team’s own mistakes were bitterly punished. In addition, VfB was unable to live up to its potential from the successful previous season. There is still a little lack of security and confidence in its own performance.
Good start for VfB
The story of the game, which was played in Höhr-Grenzhausen because the hosts in Koblenz do not have their own venue, is quickly told. VfB went into the game highly motivated and conceded very little in the first half hour. From a secure defensive position, the Kaiserbergelf tried to set playful accents. But the visiting team could not do more than a few pinpricks. Even though Cosmos Koblenz had coordination problems in its own ranks with its newly assembled team at the beginning, in the end the individual class of Cosmos prevailed.
Unnecessary ball losses in midfield, coordination problems in defense and, last but not least, a lack of training after long absences were the reasons why the game tipped in favor of the hosts as the game went on. After a mistake in the Linz defense, the hosts did not need to be asked twice and scored the 1-0 goal through Ronaldo Kröber in the 33rd minute.
More than one goal was not possible
The second half was increasingly dominated by the “home team”, so that the Kaiserberg team was only rarely able to provide relief. The decisive goals were scored by Alesio Caushaj in the 65th minute and Ayman Ed-Daoudi in the 69th minute. The Kaiserberg team did manage to pull one back in the 73rd minute with a header from captain Niklas Klein after a corner, but that was all they could do on the day.
Nevertheless, there were phases in the game in which Schuster’s team made some playful moves. Whenever the ball moved quickly and well through their own ranks and the fast strikers Manuel Rott and Fabio Schopp were put in the spotlight, there were promising finishes. The Kaiserberg team must now build on this, then they will be able to build on the performances of the previous season.
