After Sebastian Vettel’s departure from Ferrari, everything seemed to speak for a change to McLaren. Now, however, there is a surprising turning point.
Wednesday afternoon it still looked as if Sebastian Vettel would switch to McLaren after his Ferrari retirement. According to insider information, the conclusion of a one-year contract with team principal Andreas Seidl was practically fixed. But as German media now report, Vettel McLaren is now said to have rejected.
The reason: The four-time world champion no longer wanted to do any construction work and waited three years to get back in a winning car. This is the time the British team claims to need to get back on the winning road with the Mercedes engines (from 2021). Vettel McLaren is said to have shared this.
Poker for a new cockpit or career break?
There are only two options for Vettel: either he gets a place at Mercedes or he ends his career. The contracts of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas expire at Mercedes this year. Vettel probably speculates particularly on the seat of Bottas.
