Chile: In the recent seminar on health challenges in the Magallanes Region, the pharmaceutical company announced the main developments in its preventive treatments for fish.
The Ipe-Vac product is an inactive vaccine against infectious pancreatic necrosis that has been in the industry for 17 years and has been used by all salmon producers to control the disease.
The description is given by the veterinary doctor and Biological Area Product Manager at Veterquimica, Luis Montoya, when explaining to an audience of specialists from different production companies the news that this preventive treatment brings.
And, as he explained, starting in January 2024 the pharmaceutical company will begin to offer the Ipe-Vac vaccine in version 2.0.
The veterinarian explained that it is “a superior immersion vaccine, its effectiveness may be similar to the existing one, but with improvements in that it was registered at a lower application weight and also has a greater antigenic load, to give security to the vaccine.” industry that it is a much more improved product than what we have today and that it has already helped a lot to control IPN in Chile.”
He recalled that, in fact, until 2007, mortality from this disease could reach 80% but that with the arrival of the vaccine, more than 50% of the fry in Chile were inoculated and mortality began to decrease.
“From 2011 onwards, mortality dropped to the floor and we began to vaccinate an average of 80% of the fry each year, and from then to date mortality has been extremely low, so it is a very good tool that “It helped control this pathology and that is why we wanted to refresh it and do an Ipe-Vac 2.0,” commented Luis Montoya.
Added to the above is the recent launch of the Beka Plus 3 triple vaccine on the market, which “contains the two strains of SRS, the two strains of IPN and the strain of R. Salmoninarum,” the professional noted. It is an injectable product against bacterial kidney disease, infectious pancreatic necrosis and salmon rickettsial syndrome.
“It is our latest development, a new vaccine that solves the problem of giving more than one puncture because it carries the three antigens and by making one application, management is greatly improved with a result that is the same as applying them separately,” Montoya revealed. .
In both cases, the target species for the vaccines are Atlantic salmon, Coho salmon, rainbow trout and Chinook salmon.
