Users on social networks reported the murder of veterinary doctor Israel Enrique Gómez Benítez, who was the victim of a violent assault in the municipality of Majagua, in the province of Ciego de Ávila.
According to Fernando Gispert, head of clinical services at the “Laika” veterinary clinic, the objective of the criminals was to steal the electric motorcycle of the professional, who had more than 30 years of experience.
“Dr. Israel was a professional with more than 30 years of experience, very loved by the population of Maja. Our condolences go to family and friends. See you always Isra, you will always be with us with your constant joy,” he stated in his Facebook post.
According to the Internet user, several people suspected of being involved in the murder of the veterinarian are already detained by the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), thanks to images captured by the security cameras of different companies in the area where the violent event occurred.
The death of the veterinarian was mourned by dozens of people, who sent their condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
The man was described as a very cheerful and professional person, who had a great passion for his work. One of these users indicated that Gómez Benítez came to visit the United States and had the opportunity to stay, but he did not do so because he would not be able to practice veterinary medicine if he did.
“Israel was happy and content and told us that he did not stay in the US when he visited because he could not practice veterinary medicine, which was his passion, in addition to the fact that the English language was a problem for him. ‘Here I will have less, but I am a veterinarian,’ he said. At 6:00 pm we said goodbye and four hours later they had already murdered him,” wrote Internet user Ernesto Zurita.
Many of the comments complained about the current situation on the Island, which had experienced an increase in insecurity levels in recent months. In that sense, they urged the authorities to do their job, demanding justice for the murder of the veterinarian.
In that sense, they pointed out that the current penalties are not severe enough to stop criminals, so the sentences of criminals should be increased.
